What is Devin MCP?

The Devin MCP server lets AI agents drive Devin, the AI software engineer from Cognition. That means an agent can start a Devin coding session from a task prompt, follow its progress and results, send it follow-up instructions, and manage the knowledge and secrets Devin uses while it works. It connects to the same Devin account your team already uses, so one agent can hand engineering work to Devin and report back instead of you opening the Devin app to kick off every task.

Delegating work to Devin still involves manual steps: starting a session, checking back on its status, nudging it with more context, and keeping its knowledge base current. The Devin MCP server hands those steps to an AI agent that can launch the session, poll for the result, and surface the pull request. Describe the task, and your AI agent will brief Devin and track it for you.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI agents call external tools. Normally, working with the Devin API means managing an API key and writing code against its endpoints. Gumloop wraps that behind a hosted server: add your Devin API key once. After that, you can start sessions, check results, and manage knowledge just by chatting with your AI agent.

What you can do with Devin MCP on Gumloop

  • Start Devin sessions

Kick off a new Devin coding session from a task prompt, optionally pre-loaded with specific knowledge, secrets, and tags, and get back a session ID and a URL to follow it.

  • Track progress and results

Get a session’s status, messages, and structured output, including any pull requests it opens, and list all your sessions.

  • Steer a running session

Send follow-up messages to an active session to add instructions or context as the work develops.

  • Manage sessions

Update a session’s tags to keep work organized, and terminate a session you no longer need.

  • Manage Devin’s knowledge

Create, list, update, and delete the knowledge entries Devin draws on during its sessions.

  • Manage secrets

Create encrypted secrets for Devin to use in sessions, list their metadata, and delete them. The list returns metadata only, not the secret values.

How to connect the Gumloop Devin MCP Server

  1. Create a Gumloop account

Sign up at gumloop.com. Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial.

  2. Add the Devin MCP server

Copy your MCP server URL from Gumloop and add it to your preferred client (Claude, Cursor, or Gumloop workflows). You'll authorize on first use.

  3. Start using Devin in your AI workflows

That's it. Your AI agent can now start and track Devin sessions and manage its knowledge and secrets. Use it inside a Gumloop automation, in Claude Desktop, or in Cursor.

Devin MCP use cases

  • Auto-delegate bug fixes for engineering teams

When a bug ticket comes in, an agent starts a Devin session with the details, then posts the resulting pull request link back to the tracker, so routine fixes move without a human kicking them off.

  • Session monitoring for engineering managers

An agent lists active Devin sessions, pulls each one’s status and any pull requests, and posts a daily roundup to Slack so the team sees what Devin shipped.

  • Codebase research on demand

An agent starts a Devin session to investigate how part of the codebase works, waits for the structured output, and drops the summary into a doc.

  • Keep Devin’s knowledge current

An agent turns onboarding docs or coding standards into Devin knowledge entries, and updates them when the docs change, so Devin works from the latest guidance.

  • Hands-off task intake

An agent watches an intake channel, creates a Devin session for each well-scoped request, and tags it so the right team can follow along.

Why use Gumloop for Devin MCP

  • Add your key once, no code

Working with the Devin API directly means managing an API key and writing code against its endpoints. With Gumloop you add your Devin API key one time and it is stored securely. No env vars, token management, or code necessary.

  • Works with multiple MCP clients

Use the same hosted Devin MCP server in Gumloop, Claude, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible clients. Same server URL, works with any MCP client.

  • Chain Devin with 100+ integrations

An agent can read a bug from Linear or GitHub, start a Devin session to fix it, and post the pull request to Slack, all in a single run.

  • Enterprise-grade hosting

Gumloop hosts the server for you and respects your existing Devin access, so an agent works within the account your API key can reach. See trust.gumloop.com for security details.

  • Start with a free trial

Gumloop offers a 14-day free Pro trial so you can try the Devin MCP server before you commit. Paid plans start at $37/month.
